This dual compilation was originally conceived as an experiment to explore a new direction sometimes spoken of as Ambient Noise Wall, or ANW, emerging from within the dark corners of our tiny scene of Wall Noise practitioners and listeners. This term was seemingly created as a sort of antonym to the prevailing term Harsh Noise Wall, or HNW (a nomenclature employed even in the name of my own humble cemetary).

The use of these two terms, with their two opposing descriptors right up front, began to make me consider the true meaning of what is indeed "harsh" and, by contrast, what is indeed "ambient." Are these terms truly opposites in the context of sound art? Are they merely fancier euphemisms for "loud" and "soft"? Due to the relative newness and consistent evolution of the genre of Wall Noise, any conclusion I may have arrived at would be a personal one that would do little to answer these questions in an objective manner.

I do not have the hubris to claim to be the first to attempt an experiment similar to this. Many of you are likely to be familiar with the well-established and ongoing Infinity Series, the brainchild of James Killick (gracing this compilation as Small Hours) or the now almost revered Wallwhores tape set put out by Sweden's HarshFuckedForLife nearly two years ago. Why do it again? I'm attempting a format that may present the aural opinions of the participants in a manner which may be more conducive to direct comparison and judgement.

Each of the participating artists (some sent in submissions unsolicited due to an interest in the concept, others were selected and contacted by me personally based on the content of their previous recordings) was asked to prepare two short recordings: one that they would consider "harsh," another that they would consider "ambient." This method would make the artists intentions to specifically define these terms in relation to each other. Also, by asking the artists to prepare the two tracks somewhat simultaneously, any natural evolution of the artist's work is removed from the equation. The first "harsh" group of tracks is presented on disc one, the second "ambient" group on disc two.

The difference between the two tracks presented by the individual artists is at turns subtle (Smrznik, Horrible Mess) or quite drastic (Clive Henry, Small Hours). A few "ambient" tracks come off as more loud and intense (Carrion Black Pit, Rééducation) than some of the "harsh" tracks (Ghost, Stoned To Death). Some have created ambient tracks featuring lush rumbling (Sleep, Segment Aura), others a light crackling and squealing (Dead Body Collection), others a gentle hiss (Static Mantra, Worthless), others a warm, almost tonal resonance (Clive Henry, Smrznik, Stoned To Death). Many have combined these various elements and some have done something else entirely. The tracks on the first disc may seem a bit more similar to each other, but even the most vehement wallhater would seem incredulous claiming that tracks by Scant, Worthless, and Nascitari "all sound the same," an inaccurate critque often used to dismiss the style. Suffice to say, these concepts of "harsh" and "ambient" mean vastly different things in the minds of these artists.

Regarding my own interpretation of the results, I feel I have discovered something beyond my original semantic inquiry. You may notice that the majority of the projects featured on this compilation have only been in existence for the past two years or so, and some as little as a few months. While I can't speak for anyone else, I don't think any of these projects represent any kind of "Ambient Noise Wall" movement or that one even exists, really. Instead, this is a snapshot of the present and future of Wall Noise which is increasing in its innovation & variety with walls of all sizes, textures and colors, pushing against the old Wall and stretching it into something new.

Of course, a wiser listener than me will approach this compilation with a less analytical mindset. They will simply tune in, let go, and ride these walls to wherever they go. Wall Noise does not speak loudest to the intellect but rather to the soul in need of transcendence, transformation or transportation to a vast, engulfing environment of sound. Enjoy!

Fuck yeah. This is awesome. Heavy, noisy and totally eclectic. Plus, Worthless Recordings does something awesome that few people do; they staggers the tracks. Side A is Dead Body Collection/Persistence in Mourning/Dead Body Collection and side B is the opposite. So to break this down I will just describe each act a bit. Dead Body Collection is harsh noise with a extra layer of filth laying on the top. Listening to DBC's sounds is like trying to read the names and dates on 300 year old tombstones. It's tough, depressing and brings to mind your own mortality. Persistence in Mourning is much more of a "band". It has a ultra heavy doom vibe that reminds me of Neurosis, Ardent Vein, God Flesh, Deutsch Nepal and Throbbing Gristle. It's fucking bleak. It actually has samples and for some reason I am totally okay with it. I guess it's the Neurosis vibe. It always worked with them. I need to hear more from both of these acts and so do you. Knowing Worthless Recordings this will probably be sold out by the time you read this but I recommend doing your best to pick this up (you should really just check in with them once a week). Excellent work in general although I do have one criticism. This cassette is a prime example of the need to get things mastered. I don't always do this with my own releases (or if I do, I do it myself and I am not the best) but right now I can think of three guys who are great at mastering and they are waiting for your emails. James Plotkin, Phil Petrocelli and Pete Swanson are all amazing at mastering and they will make everything you do sound a million times better and more balanced. In this case it was more the staggering of tracks that made it evident. Regardless you are not going to be bummed about this one. Simple layout that is a little too dark but I think the awesome vinyl sticker makes up for that. Edition of 50 copies. Only 4 left at press time.

Dead Body Parts” is a truly huge, lengthy and inescapable submersion in brutal, unrelenting, macabre & grim lined walled noise. This tape box set conists of five c90 tapes, and offers up near on seven & half hours of battering ‘n’ body fluid splattered HNW.

For the uninitiated Dead Body Collection is the harsh noise wall project of Serbian based Aleksandar Nenad. The project is one of the most prolific, unforgiving & grim of the world wide HNW scene. Since August 2009 DBC has put out over sixty releases & counting. The projects sound is offten very dense, bass heavy, overloaded, fixed, macabre & brutal in it’s atmosphere.

Before we dig deep into that sonic side of things lets talk about the box & the packaging for this set. The 5 tapes come in over sized A5 white vinyl box which features suitable sickening & grim full colour artwork. The front cover features nine little snapshots of decaying & diseased body parts against a black background, with the BDB logo & the box sets title on the top & the bottom of the front cover. On the back cover there’s a picture of the end of a discoloured & dirt mortuary wall with a pair of dead & decaying feet in the top half of the picture. Inside the box the tapes are laid out with three tapes on the first side of the box, the two tapes on other side. The tapes feature white labels on each side of the tapes, and these feature blood red lettering of each dead body part each side is named after. Then to finish off the packing there’s a single sheet of white paper listing all the tracks contents & when it was all recorded- once again this is all in a blood red ink. The ltd edition version of this set also featured a t-shirt….but sadly I think that edition is long gone.

So onto the tapes themselves- each of the five tapes features two side long tracks, so there are ten ‘walls’ in total here each lasting to or near the forty five minute mark. All the material here is taken from between September to November 2009, and this is the earliest of the HNW material that Dead Body collection recorded.

First-up on side A of tape one we have an track entitled “Spleen”, and this 'wall' is an urgent mix of what sounds like the slightly sped-up recordings of flies feasting on a decaying corpse texturing, churning cold TV static, and this is underfed & weaved by a slightly slower ‘n’ stretched out judder or blown-out throbbing tonality. As the track progresses it seems to get more dense & surrounding, but in reality this is a fairly unmoving slice of HNW. At times the track reminds me of the small static textured yet detailed & dense walls of projects like Skönhet, yet there’s a quite grim & sickening air present here that is not found in such projects. So this ‘wall’ is a great start to the set as it surrounds you nicely for its complete running time in cold, detailed & dense static texturing.

Onto side B of tape one & we have a track entitled “Bladder”. This tracks ‘wall’ starts out as a great mass of slightly swirling ‘n’ murky static that seems to amass around you in a semi uncertain yet wide circular manner. As the track moves towards it’s 5th minute things seem to semi firm-up(or maybe your just getting used to the ‘wall’ feel), and one can make out a several layers of juddering tone that’s tipped/ weaved by this small crashing static tone that sounds like muffled & digitised loop recording of the sea crashing in. As the track goes on the digitized seashore crashing element seems to rise higher up in the ‘walls’ mix, and this nicely builds a feel of slightly muffled yet building & sadistic tension. Through by just over the mid –way it seems to have lost it edge as the whole ‘wall’ seems to become slightly more sludge bound & descending in it’s feel. The rest of the track sort of see-saws between the more building & descending feel- yet the ‘wall’ always remains firm & dense through-out. All told this is another rewarding ‘wall’, and I do really like the way DBC is subtly altering the tracks textures for maximum brutal atmospheric effect.

Onto tape two & on side A we have “Lung”, and this mixers together a boring at times almost tribal drone that’s over raged by this battering ‘n’ crisp rapid juddering & jittering tonalities. The rapid juddering ’n’ jitter textures do shift & alter ever so often giving one the feeling of been on some sadistic conveyor belt that has different tools of torture attached to it- yet the track never shifts totally away from it’s juddering meets boring template. So I guess it’s best to call this track active & often agitated tribal industrial licked HNW.

Over on side B of tape two we have “Thyroid” and this track’s ‘wall’ is built around a muffled, ragged & lo-fi bass judder that’s underfed by swirling small static slight ‘n’ sway. To start with the track brings to mind a huge billow beast that’s been held under water- the beast is in it’s last struggles to get to the surface & air. As the tracks goes on the billowing ‘n’ juddering gets more downwardly raging, and the smaller static elements become more circular and descend- as if the beast it been slowed pulled to in it’s water grave. The tracks ok, but it does start to drag a little around the twenty to twenty five minute- so there’s an effective set of textures here they just lack focus & depth to keep you hanging on until the end.

Onto tape three & on side A we have “Tongue”, and this track continues to deepen the lo-fi vibe of the “Thyroid” track. The wall is built very muffled mixture of rumbling drum like billowing & caustic hissing juddering. It feels like a very screwed & muffled mixture of looped drum parade and airport/ helicopter recordings. It truly is a very brutal & ear searing track, though it does rather lack any of the grim atmosphere or murderous tension that DBC is know for, it also becomes tiresome fairly soon. Again some neat textures & ideas, but its just lacking slightly in execution.

Over onto side B of tape three we have “Uterus”, and this track is built around bass drilling ‘n’ juddering static tonalities that are joined together into slightly ghosted yet brutal haze of noise. DBC has built the ‘wall’ so it feels like the drilling ‘n’ judder tones are constantly pummelling & battering into you. This track nicely makes up for the slightly underwhelming last two tracks, as it pins you to the floor with it’s continual drilling ‘n’ boring bass singed walled noise attack & it never seems to lose it’s power/ brutal addictiveness.

Moving onto tape number four and on side A we have track entitled “Eye”. And this track is built around low rumble drone currents that are overcut by cold ‘n’ repetitive slicing tone- imagine walking through a slow constantly rumbling earth quake in the middle of Antarctic and all around you the ice is slowly cracking, slicing & breaking. The ‘wall’ here brings to mind the colder & chilled HNW of the Sarajevo based Smrznik project- yet DBC does add some of his own grim identity to the track, with the listener feeing like there slowly but surely geting more & more engulfed with chilling yet moorish bleakness.

On tape four side B we find the track “Liver”. And here we get a ‘wall’ built from a mixture of rumbling ‘n’ static slicing tones- DBC pulls together three or four layers of noise to create this engulfing & unstoppable textural battering. I really like the mix here between the more meaty rumble and small slicing static here, and it gives one the feeling of falling through a machine full of 1000s of continually slicing blades. Again this is another worthwhile track, and you certainty find your self getting sucked into the ‘wall’ nicely over its running time.

And so onto tape number 5 the last in the boxset- side A’s track is entitled “Intestine”. This track is based around a mixture of juddering caustic rolling thats coated & seared with pummelling tonalities, sudden grating fan belt sustains, and almost groove based static jittering. I’m not really sure you can strictly call this track HNW, maybe at a stretch active wall noise- but to me it’s more like harsh noise that has some walled tendencies & a very overloaded industrial vibe to it. The tracks ok, but nothing too special.

And lastly on side B of tape five we have the track “Teeth”. And this ‘wall’ is built around a mixture of juddering ‘n’ boring noise that’s swirled and bayed by these small swirling & muffled grains of static noise. The tracks ok, but it rather lacks the wow factor- again it feels like there some neat textures here but they’ve not really been built together for optimum effect & engrossment.

So to sum up “Dead Body Parts” is certainly a very brutal, lengthy, yet at times fairly varied (with-in a mainly fixed HNW framework) collection of walled noise. There are some really effective & compelling slices of HNW here, yet there also some rather underwhelming & uninspired slices of HNW too- but on the whole the more rewarding & worthwhile walled noise out weighs the not so great stuff.

So if you’re a fan of DBC’s work this is with-out a doubt a must have item, as it sees him experiment with different takes on walled noise to find his own sonic identity. And if you’re a genreal fan of mainly fixed & dense walled noise this is also worth picking up, as there really are some great & hypnotic slices of HNW on offer here.

The second Italian based HNW fest Staring at Wall 2011 took place in the small Italian town of Luserna San Giovanni on the 29 October 2011. Sadly no M[m] staff could make the event, so instead we got on the ground reports from two of the performing artists.

So first up below you'll find a fest report from Lorenzo Nascitari whose behind the Italian suicidal HNW project Nascitari. Review for Dead Body Collection - Catoptrophobia from Roger Batty

“Catoptrophobia” is the latest slice of seared 'n' battering sonic sickness from highly the prolific & unrelenting Serbian HNW project Dead Body Collection. This pro-pressed CDR offers up a single near on hour long track of bass ruptured & truly intense walled noise with a macabre & brutal flavour.

The packaging/ artwork for this release is probably one of the most pro-looking yet bloody of DBC’s near on sixty releases thus far. The artwork is full colour pro-printed and comes with a two page booklet in a jewel case. The front, back and internal artwork features movie like stills of a women laying on the floor of a shower- on the first picture her head is semi-severed, on the second picture it's completely severed & spurting blood from it’s stump, and the last back picture is of the sprawled decapitated body half in the blood drenched shower stall. The albums title is the word for fear of mirrors, so fittingly all the albums texts are back to front which is quite a neat idea, through you can only read the words of course if you have a mirror to hand.

So lets move onto the single fifty five minute track with-in. The ‘wall’ rams straight in with a truly scorching, raging & bass bloody mixture of juddering, stuck grating and drilling static. It feels like ones trapped inside some archaic & sadistic torture machine in the middle of a desert sand storm at the height of it’s devastating & disorientating powers. DBC lets the ‘wall’ batter, rip and boil away at you in fairly fixed & unbreakable manner, through there is the odd subtle textural shifts with-in the walls layers ever so often- like towards the end of the track this haunting & ebbing piercing harmonic drone darts & melts through the ‘wall’ for a few minutes, but really there are no big or noticeable changes through the ‘walls’ life . The only real major breaks or changes in the proceedings happens at just under the 15 minute mark when the ‘wall’ sudden stops for a second or two, and when it returns it seem slightly altered. And the other alteration appears around the just before the thirty minute mark where the ‘wall’ thins back for a moment for a few pained screams- this moment is quite effective & adds a bit unnerving contrast to the ‘wall’

“Catoptrophobia” is another truly unrelenting and extreme lesson in noise at it’ most intense, thick & raging form. Sure if you’re a fan of the project you’ll get what you expect here brutal & unflinching HNW, but if your new to the DBC your in for one extreme & head boiling ride.

Great review for Dead Body Collection - Chromosomal Abnormality from Roger Batty

“Chromosomal Abnormality” presents the listener with tow near on forty minute slabs of brutal, totally unrelenting & ultra thick Walled Noise from this hugely prolific Serbian project. The project themes it's releases around either ghoulish medical procedures/ diseases, or female rape, torture & murder. This release is in the medical themed bracket, and is seemingly about defects with in a foetus.

Sadly this release has had somewhat of difficult release history.... it was original meant to appear on US Bane Records in July 2010, but for some reason it never really received a full and proper release. Since then it’s appeared as a self released album in a small edition by DBC himself, & then as a free D/L on noise net label Hum And Hiss Records.

Anyway enough about it’s background/ history…what it's like??. Well both tracks are fairly standard DBC fair- i.e.: pummelling, unbroken & thick HNW that batters you with-in a inch of your life. But even thorough both tracks follow the projects well beaten sonic path, I’ll have to say I find both tracks here are very rewarding in there urgency, battering intent & wholly moorish yet skin melting brutal sound attack. The first track “Fragile X Syndrome” boils together a rapid mesh of juddering, billowing and tearing tone into breath-taking sonic attack. As the track goes on it seems it's structure shifts ‘n’ ebbs with in it’s textureal layers, but I’m sure that’s this just an sonic illusion & this track is as fixed & as tight as Fort Knox.

Track two “XX Male Syndrome” seems to be mainly built around a two level judder- one judder is fast paced & chop static like, and the other ones billowing & slicing in it’s feel. DBC focus both elements into a raging, battering & crushing sonic vortex that blocks out the world around you and sucks you into a primal place. Later on with-in the tracks guts I’m sure I can make out a grating & juddering industrialized tone loop, and this really nicely focuses one mind. Again this ‘wall’ is entrancing & moorish, and when it finishers just over 38 minutes latter your very much tempted to put the track back on again & brutally submerge your self once more.

So while “Chromosomal Abnormality” neither stretchers or expands the HNW form this is an very enjoyable, uncompromising & rewarding near on eighty minute sonic battering of the finest kind. Well worth hunting this down if you’re a DBC fan, and this is as good as place for newbie’s to start.

What is better than one Samuel Jackson cameo on your tape cover? Well two cameos!

This is the second part of this hopefully long running tape series. This one has a different feel, a different vibe, than the first one. Side A is a tad bit shorter but all new noise, while the B side is all OLD.

The B side is all old Go-Charge records re-issues. I have written about Go Charge stuff before, I down right love it to death. It was the Quebec dudes from Deche-Charge and the like who went on to form bands like DAHMER and MESRINE. Respect.

Here is a little run down of each track:

1. D//Cereghini- Piss On Music.

Once again I find myself on a comp tape. Pissing on music. the night of the Blue Shirts/IxNuds/Fossils/Disleksick show (see Londoom Live Volume One CD-R) I was walking home and pissed on a wall (in the process I kicked out the jams from my body . Hail shitnoise.

2. Dead Body Collection- Helicobacter Pylori

Alex (aka Dead Body Collection) offers up a brutal Harsh Noise Wall track of nothing. Punishment to your ears. Perfect fit for a comp like this. Nothing. No kicking out the jams, no movement, no experimentation, nothing.

3. The Rossiter's- Sam

The opposite of Dead Body Collection. London punk circa 2009. Jordan Mclelland and friends kick out the jams. A little bit of skate, a little bit of '77, alls good in the hood.

4. Wolverine Carcass- Protein Memories

Logan Butler "Kicks Out The Jam". One long and varied harsh noise piece. Quite different in choice of attack from the collab Disleksick did circa early 2010. Once again stellar stuff from the dude with the honour of having the biggest record collection in new york state!

5. Disleksick- Two Wheeled Thief (Live on CHRW)

Our "classic" song (that indeed does kick out the jams). Three piece brutality on the radio, mixed by David from the raw feed. Kick out the James, Andrew and David while you are at it.

6. Powercup- Two Live Tracks

Tabarnak! Renovation through masturbation! Insane PQ grindcore that kicks out the jams and whips out the tool belt. Our brothers in grind, one of the best bands in Canada.

7. Indian Smokes- Untitled

Shitnoisechaoskickoutthejams east coast style. Jamie MacIntosh offers up a track that sounds similar to falling face first down the stairs. Insane stuff.

8. Total Shit Project- At The Dentist

Ewwwww. Zach from xbrainiax offers up one long shit noise track that actually made me a wartorn veteran of harsh noise and noisecore uneasy. Instead of kicking out the jams Zach records a trip to the dentist. Good luck getting through this one!

9. ZombieHandsome- Untitled

Sean from Bovine records kicks out some serious noisecore jams. VIOLENT stuff. What is Bovine Records? Seriously go jump in front of a fucking runaway train if you don't already know. 90's brutality!

Side B can be summed up as SHITNOISE HEAVEN! Suposituire (members of D-C and DAHMER!), an old Deche-Charge traxxx, GoCharge, Chainsaw and Morbid Shit all create quite a brutal racket. Well worth it just for this side of the tape. All of it is available for free download online as well.

This tape like all tapes on Noisecore Unlimited Tapes + CD-R's is unlimited. Please duplicate at your own will! I can email you the masters and covers if you want a copy. Sell them to your local church groups and seniors homes.

Review for Dead Body Collection & Griz+zlor - Big Red One by Roger Batty

“Big Red One” sees two of the HNW scenes more hard hitting, dense and weighty projects getting together for an hour long collaboration track. In the right hand corner we have Philadelphia based Griz+zlor, and in the left corner we have Serbian based Dead Body Collection. Together the pair boil up quite a thick yet layer shifting slab of weighty HNW that doesn’t really sound like either parties work.

The Cdr features a single hour & two minute track of impenetrable yet seemingly textural & layer shifting noise. The ‘walls’ built around an active, relatively short, and continuous churning judder ‘n’ folding static texture. Under this main and constant tone there’s seemingly all manner of buried & shifting sound, we have: sloping and bending caustic drone belts, galloping industrial almost percussive dwells, grateing drill like pluses, and mostly bizarrely what seems like some form of buried, ultra melted & muffed musical elements. This ‘musical’ element is so deeply buried that it’s extremely difficult to define what it is; but from time to time you can just make out what could be an epic blacked metal or possible post rock guitar tones, or maybe it’s a pressing up beat modern rock rhythm section, or possible some sort of horn edged & emotional instrumental tv or moive theme. This whole element really neatly pulls you deeper into the track as you attempt to make out quite what it is.

So this is a very thick and unrelenting collaboration between these two heavy weighty HNW projects from either side of the globe. And really as all good collabs should be “Big Red One” sounds like neither parties other work.

Review for Dead Body Collection – She is Like The Winter... by Roger Batty

“She Is Like The Winter….” is the latest slice of brutal, unforgiving and death stench heavy Walled noise from the hugely prolific Serbian based project Dead Body Collection.This release offers up three single sided C60 tapes which feature three half an hour brutal lessons in gruelling, suffocating and rapidly battering HNW.

As one would expect with this projects ghoulish & grim obsession with murders, copses and gut-churning medical procedures the artwork for the box set is very nasty & gruesome. The long white cassette case, that holds the three tapes, features on it’s outside front a murky ‘n’ grim picture of a naked female corpse that has been burnt near to a crisp in a few places, on the back cover we have two more grim pictures of bloody and nude women. Inside the case we get on the none tape side a picture DBC playing live in his Doctors coat & creepy white manikin like mask, and over on the other side of the box are the three tapes which feature the grim colour image from the front cover spread over the three tapes fronts.

The three thirty minute tracks featured here are entitled “White”, “Cold” & “ And Dead” which of course nicely ends off the boxsets title in a fittingly grim manner.
The first track “White” finds DBC unfolding an rapid & unrelenting mixture of rumbling judder & reeling caustic drone that has sunk just under it’s surface this wiring fish rod reel like industrial type element and battering almost drum like ragging feel- it's a truly nasty & effective start to the set.

Track two “Cold” is another rapid and unforgiving track that finds DBC brutal bounding together ripping 'n’ brutally whirring noise dwells with low down bass like rages & rattling/ overloaded ball bearing like revolutions. It’s an ‘ok’ piece of raging wall-making, but it does’nt really vary enough from the template of the first track to make it stand out.

Track Three “And Dead” once again comes off as very battering, rapid and thick like the other two tracks, but for some reason I find it a bit more rewarding & urgent then the second, & it’s almost as rewarding as the first track. The ‘walls’ built once more around a constantly raging mix of noise tones, and this time it’s a mixture of tense rumbles, vibrations and judderings. The ‘wall’s layers seem to nicely shift and alternate as your mind picks up first one noise tone then the next. All told a nice raging if slightly predicable slice of HNW.

So this box set offers up three raging, unrelenting and rapid slices of intense walled noise- Track ones very effective in it’s overload urgent attack, Track two sounds too similar to track one & lacks it’s moorish brutality, and Track three is an effective if little predicable slice of ragging rapidity. Really if you’re a fan of DBC's other work this is a no brainer & a grim looking collector’s item, but if your new to the ghoulish, grim & brutal wares of DBC it’s best to start somewhere else first as this isn’t his finest moment through it’s neither a complete failure either.

Review for Dead Body Collection - I Slice Her Body, Over And Over

Dead Body Collection has really made a name for himself over the past year or so, with a ton of new releases coming out all over the place on dozens of reputable record labels. The project is also extreme in other areas, including the sheer length and unchanging dimensions on most of his harsh noise walls. The same is true of I Slice Her Body, Over and Over, which clocks in around 70 minutes with two side-long tracks at 35 minutes apiece. Both are relatively static displays of harsh noise walls, rarely shifting dynamics besides heavy bass-ridden churns of sound. The cover art is equally brutal, with a nude woman’s torso slashed deeply to the intestines, with the rest of her decapitated and limbless. The release comes in an oversized box with inserts; however, the tape is unlabeled, making it difficult to determine which is side A and side B.

What I’m deeming side A features a heavy, plodding bass layer along with a stuttering jitter of crunchy static that plays atop it. A very consistent piece, unchanging but with just enough roiling to keep the listeners attention through its lengthy runtime.

Side B consists of the same mid-paced bassy rumbles with very light static underneath and a slight oscillating pattern buried within. The static currents lick at the bass, but it’s the pummeling from the frolicking rumbles that dominate the sound. One can somewhat separate the textures into three sounds, and so it allows the listener to focus on each pattern easily to allow for sufficient mesmerization. The static tends to twist and shove through the barrier, pushing to the forefront and petering out again.

While both tracks are a bit similar, they both have their nuances to make them stand out as mammoth tracks. Part I is somewhat standard for a wall, but Part II kicks it up a notch with shifty static. The bass stands out on I Slice Her Body, Over and Over as a means to hide the static underneath layers; of course, Dead Body Collection ensures that it slices through at times, though.

Review for Ascites & Dead Body Collection – Tissue Damage by Roger Batty

“Tissue Damage” is a seared & extreme medical/surgery themed HNW collaboration between US

Texas based three piece Ascites, and ghoulish/ brutal one man Serbian based project Dead Body Collection. Each project offers up two sets of original track source material, which the other project gives a final flaying & boiling mix to.

Each of the four tracks on offer here come in near the twenty minute mark, and each track is as extreme & truly seared as the last. The release opens up with a track entitled “Bovine” which finds Ascites re-searing the original source material by DBC. The ‘walls’ a brutal sonic weave of billowing flame like roasting, and juddering ‘n’ slight hissing static noise churn-the tracks both thick, unmoving, and head boiling fierce in it’s intent.

Track tow is entitled “Argon Beam Coagulator” , and it finds DBC brutalising Ascites material. This ‘wall’ is a very angry and battering mixture of juddering bass like over boil, with an under-carriage of juddering ‘n’ jittering mid tone noise tonalities. The tracks very urgent, violent and unstoppable .

Tracks three is entitled “Harmonic Scalpel”, and it finds Ascites unfolding a low-fi and bleak take on DBC's material. The ‘walls’ fast paced, yet stark and it finds a mixture of juddering circular static over a stuck billowing ‘n’ furnace roaring drone. The track has a much more lo-fi & crusty feel compared with the other tracks here, and it creates a nice nihilistic static white-out feel.

So Last of all we have “Kleppinger”, which finds DBC strapping down & drilling into Ascites track to create this very ugent and externe bass bound noise attack. The ‘walls’ a mixture of short ‘n’ locked bass judder, and jittering ‘n’ stuck static buzzing/ drilling noise tone. The track really feels like your strapped to an hospital operation table, and your heads been randomly drilled by a buzzing and aged hand drill.

So “Tissue Damage” is a very extreme and brutal mix of these two projects sounds to create a truly seared and unrelenting attack on the sonic sensors in four parts. One for the more seasoned ‘wall –head’!

Review for Dead Body Collection - HNW VOL.1: Homage to HNW Tapes from Steven Antoni

Almost one year ago Dr. Alex (Dead Body Collection) had the idea to express his appreciation of the HNW community by making an homage to active projects of the time by using certain releases or walls as sound source in this worthy set documenting the long lost HNW message board run by Cannibal Ritual and also a tribute to early participating members of that forum. This cd-r set spans four discs of varied lengths that contain incredible analog noise wall made by sampling HNW artists: Vomir, Griz+Zlor, Werewolf Jerusalem, Självhat, Smzrnik, Oblive, Svartvit and Å. If you can recall the releases used for this often you’ll find that the rhythms of the walls remain mostly the same however the further distorting and settings used to alter the wall give it a more jagged texture similar to the feel of early Dead Body Collection releases. This set is mostly slow blasting static with a painfully rugged feel without the extreme bass that other artists tend to over use. The lack of mastering is a Dead Body Collection trademark which keep the project’s signature style well represented in this tribute set. The set comes in a modest black 4xDVD case holder with full color print out of the artist on the cover created by Smrznik and is limited to only 21 copies. Worth seeking if you treasure the old HNW tapes board which also only a limited number of people were allowed to use as it was ultra secretive for the sole purpose of maintaining HNW PURITY!

Review for Dead Body Collection - A Quiet Place To Kill from Steven Antoni

This releases comes in thick with a blasting barrage of crushing static wall noise, ’A Quiet Place to Kill’ is a single track entitled “day of the maniac”, endlessly flowing in an unmoving and obsessive pattern. filling almost all 80 minutes on a single cd-r. It starts the way it ends, as is true HNW fashion with brutal static texture scraping at your senses. The only way to describe this is as a turbulent static void filled with extremely tough wall textures. This truly is a little stronger than your average track as the textures come in thick jagged patterns of scraping style noise wall. It’s entire duration is a well satisfying meditative stasis that could be wholly enjoyed by total renounce of the senses and absorbing only its darkened static. Its dynamic forsaking nature is synonymous with that of the negatively accepted “void worship” wall noise which in many cases proves to be pure. As most of the early Dead Body Collection releases, this is one of those modestly packaged in a single sleeve with printed artwork released by Hatred and War records from Serbia.

“Those Tiny Eyes Were Beautiful And...Dead” is a C60 cassette

release from late last year which offers up two sides of grim, numbing & extreme walled noise from this highly prolific & ghoulish subject themed Serbian project.

Theme wise this is possible one of the most(to my mind) disturbing DBC release thus far, as it’s all about dead children- the cover features a very troubling & disturbing picture of a child’s buried dead face….I guess this must be sourced from some sick movie still or internet search, but it's very troubling & unpleasant.

Moving onto the sonic ‘walls’ with-in & each side is a fairly text book example of DBC's unrelenting, ghoulish & brutal take on HNW. Each side long track is based around a drilling & descending mid-paced bass throb/judder that’s played over by a tightly reined jittering ‘n’ purring tonalities. Both sides of noise are deeply oppressive and sinisterly entrancing in their attack & unfold, and at times one almost feels like your being slowly but surely buried under the grim & ghoulish throb ’n’ drill of the track. Side ones ‘wall’ has a muffled & suffocating quality, where as side twos 'wall' feels a bit more pressing & intense; though both sides are fairly similar in there textural make-up.

So this particularly unsettlingly themed release offers up two mid-length examples of DBC’s locked, unrelenting & death/decay scented walled noise. To sum up a disturbing theme & two entrancing if a little predictable slices of ghoulish HNW.

So all told this C70 tape offers up two brutal, crude and bass bruising lessons in extremely and violent wall making. I very much like the subtle junk metal and brutalized sludge industrial traces running through both tracks here, and this release is another enjoyable yet painfully ride in DBC’s extreme from of sonic torture.

"I slice Her Body, Over and Over” is a C70 that finds this ultra prolific & brutally macabre Serbian project offering up two side long battering of crude & violent slices of HNW. This tape is sure to brutalize even the most seasoned of walled noise fans.

The tapes packaging is worth a mention as it consists of a over sized vinyl box that features on the cover a nice/grim full colour picture of a brutally sliced 'n' ripped open naked female torso. Inside the box has three stuck on paper black ‘n’ white inlays; one on the opposite side to the tape and one each below and above the tape it self. All told it’s a grim bit of package which suites nicely the brutalizing & torturing sonics inside.

Each side of tape features a dead on thirty five minute track, and on side one we find the first grim and raging bombardment which is entitled “Part 1”. This first side/track is built around a huge and ear carnal rupturing bass noise rumble/ caustic drone that’s Continually churned over and over in a repetitively brutal manner. Lined around and woven into the main tone is this churning ‘n’ cluttering semi metallic almost junk like tone that also pretty much repeats the same sonic battering over and over again. The ‘wall’ is very stayed and unforgiving for pretty much all of its full length, though from time to time there does seem very slight shifts in both of the main tone patters, and one sudden stop/ break in the wall for a few secounds. The only major change in the tracks make-up is towards the latter part of the track when an extra layer of slower junk cluttering/ billowing is added into the wall which gives the track a more panicked feeling, like maybe DBC's victim is in her final twitching death throws.

Side two track is entitled “Part 2” and it finds DBC offering up another really nasty brutally bass grinding noise drone ‘n’ churn tone. This main tone is sliced 'n' whipped by these smaller repetitive metal or static grazes 'n' caustic sweeps. As the track goes on the bass noise tone seems to taken on a repetitive yet descending rumble type feel, which as times feels like your stuck in an endless landslide of sound. Once the track has settled into it’s descending brutality it remains fairly firm and unbreakable in it’s ‘walled’ structure. Though DBC does tweak and slightly shift both tones to create this great 'n' endlessly descending battering or pummelling sensation, and to keep a good feeling of intense and bloody urgency about the ‘wall’.

So all told this C70 tape offers up two brutal, crude and bass bruising lessons in extremely and violent wall making. I very much like the subtle junk metal and brutalized sludge industrial traces running through both tracks here, and this release is another enjoyable yet painfully ride in DBC’s extreme from of sonic torture.

Short but sweet review for Mass Graves / Dead Body Collection – They Will Return from Steven Antoni

‘They will return’ finds Mass Graves and Dead Body Collection contributing one close to thirty minute track each of brutal static wall. Dead Body Collection begins with ‘Il Fantasma Di Anna Never’ a vortex of crunching static with an under layer of rumbling bass that remains in constant motion without any deviating qualities to its wall. Much like what you could expect from this project the wall is in strict unmoving fashion, unmastered and purely analog sounds for that signature sound. On the other hand Mass Graves offers textures of airy static mimicking something like a raging waterfall or a gathering wind storm paralleling its jagged crunching static form in a hypnotic loop of noise. The pace is so incredible and its repetitive whirling texture quickly releases your attention and nests in your subconsciousness. Released under the HNW imprint Sweet Solitude, the label responsible for the Infinity Series and various other amazing releases, it comes in a DVD case with pro printed covers and some inserts with information on the release and it’s tracks. This release comes highly recommended for fans of extreme blasting style harsh noise wall.

Review for Dead Body Collection -Blunt Force Trauma by Roger Batty

“Blunt Force Trauma” finds this highly prolific and sonically violent Serbian HNW project offering up two half a hour plus slices of unrelenting and gruesomely seared walled noise matter.

Up first we have “Concussion” which finds furnace like billowing judder and violently locked textural jittering bound into a fixed wall of noise. The track feels like your hold onto a large space bound rocket thats started up it’s engines ready for take off, and your hanging on for dear life as every thing around you seems to shaking ‘n’ voilently vibrating. The track comes in at just under the thirty four minute mark, and it’s a fairly average example of what DBC does best- violent often bass bound walled noise.

Up second & last we have the “Avulsion”, and this track mixers together more muffled and coarse bass like drone ’n’ rumbles with slightly skipping and jumping static noise dwells. Around the ninth minute this constant and aggravated yet stuck buzzing tone is added to the track, but otherwise this ‘wall’ stays relatively locked in it’s feel. This track comes in at just shy of the thirty five minute mark, and though once again you can instantly recognize that this is a DBC ‘wall’- it’s a lot more hypnotic, enjoyable and rewarding than the first track. I guess it’s mainly down to the more detailed and rewarding noise textures DBC has used to make his ‘wall’ of locked noise.

The CDR comes in the standard over sized white card folder that all Breaching Static releases come in. And it features a stuck on black ‘n’ white cover picture of what looks like a women’s head been held into a mans lap to suck off him off & her eyes are shut. A very sleazy and fitting bit of artwork.

So to sum-up “Blunt Force Trauma” offers one average if underwhelming DBC track, and one more rewarding and worth while DBC track. The release is certainly worth tracking down if you’re a fan or collector of DBC’s work, but this is not a good starting point for those new to DBC perversely brutal wall making charms.

Paris HNW Fest Report

The Euro HNW Fest took place on 23rd of April 2011 in Paris at Instants Chavirés, and the mini fest showcased some of Europe’s best and most influential HNW acts. The fest also included rare euro appearances from a US HNW acts like Richard Ramirez’s Werewolf Jerusalem.

Sadly no members of M[M] staff were able to make the fest, but instead we managed to get four ‘on the ground reports’ from the following: James Killick (of controversial Katy Perry influenced HNW project Love Katy, quiet ambient textured noise project Small Hours, and runner of the great uk based HNW label Sweet Solitude). Romain Perrot (of Vomir & Roro Perrot), and Nicola Vinciguerra (of HNW project Terminal Erection, Power electronics project Fecalove & often more surreal/ horror filled noise collective of Splinter vs. Stalin). And lastly but hardly least Aleksandar "Dr Alex" Nenad (of Serbain HNW project Dead Body Collection). All pictures used through out the various reports were taken by Osku. “Stockings Bloody Stockings part II” sees highly prolific and deeply brutal Serbian based Dead Body Collection offering up a single just shy of eighty minute wall of rapid, extreme and moorish walled matter.

The first “Stockings Bloody Stockings” appeared in August 2010 on Italian based label Scorze Records, this second part appeared in mid November 2010. And unlike a lot of sequels this actually managers to better the original release. The first SBS featured two tracks- one great bass and static subtone wall that neared the forty minute mark, and a second less successful bass juddering track that came in at the thirty five minute mark. SBS part II offers up just one great unrelenting track of walled matter which is body pinningly brutal through-out and it’s damn moorish too.

The ‘walls’ built around a very rapid bass juddering that’s circled and surrounded by a crisp 'n' crusty static jitter. These two elements are relentlessly forced into each other in a wonderfully intense and out side world silencing manner- so the listeners feels like there been endless battered and brutalized by the thick and unbreakable eye of the storm. There is no real movement or shift with-in the 'walls' extreme and battering textures- from time to time one element may sound more battering or seared than the other, but I think this is just a sign of what a great ‘wall’ this than any real textural shift.

So “Stockings Bloody Stockings part II” is another highly intense, brutally thick and unrelenting slice of wallmaking from this highly prolific act. It’s no real departure from much of the projects other work, but this is certainly a damn fine example of what this project does best brutal, nasty and often moorish walled noise. If you already a fan of DBC I’m sure you have this already, but if you’re a newbie to the projects violent and grim charms then “Stockings Bloody Stockings part II” is a great place to start!

Review for Dead Body Collection/Ekunhaashaastaack - Split from Roger Batty

This Split brings together two near on forty minute slices of euro HNW matter. We have a track from highly prolific and ghoulish Serbian Dead Body Collection, and a track from relatively new French project Ekunhaashaastaack.

Up first we have Dead Body Collection’s track “Somnolence”, which finds this Serbian scene veteran boiling–up quite a textural varied and at times shifting slice of walled matter. As DBC fans know this project usually concentrates on thick, violent and mostly unchanging HNW, so this track is quite a departure for the project. The tracks first minute and a half finds DBC unfolding a thin yet grim sheen of ambient HNW crackling ‘n’ skip textured. After this fairly subtle intro a sludgy, muffled & morbid bass judder joins the ‘wall’, and things start to get a lot thicker and more pressing. As the track goes on the bass judder seems to get more sludgy, blurred, grey and nasty in it’s feel, as it seemingly starts to spread out and smear into the original stripped, crackling & skipping texture. At just before the twelve minute the ‘walls’ stripped down to a constant eerier radio like crackle, but by the thirteenth minute a cold and stretched machine like judder has been added to the ‘wall’- then the muffled bass texture comes back in seemingly suck all hope from the track. The rest of the track nicely alternates between long thicker drifts of thick wall matter that subtle shift textural layers from time to time, and shorter burst of thinned textural matter. So all in all “Somnolence” is quite a different and altering slice of walled matter from DBC, but it still captures the grim, morbid, ghoulish yet violent feel of the projects other work.

Up lastly of course we have the Ekunhaashaastaack track which is entitled “L'Homme En Noir”( roughly translated to The Man In Black). This track is a bit more straight forward slice of walled matter which finds this French project mixing together a battering and violent speaker tone juddering, with a descending, stark and thin bass throb. It’s certainly a very urgent, nasty and angered slice of walled matter which has quite a bleak and battering punk feel in it’s guts. The two elements mainly stay fairly firm in place though-out the track, though from time to time one or another element seems to get slight more pressing, urgent or billowing in it’s feel. All told “L'Homme En Noir” effective enough slice of angered and battering wall matter.

So to sum up- a great and quite different sounding and more texturally varied track from DBC, and an effective punked wall of noise from Ekunhaashaastaack.

This wonderfully consistent and pro-looking four way split brings together the work of some of the great European HNW acts. Each project here offers up a 30 plus minute track of distinctive and creative walled matter, making this one of the most wholly rewarding HNW collection in recent memory.

Before we move on to the ‘walls’ themselves we must first talk about the packaging of this two disc set, as I think it’s one of the most pro-looking and well thought out bits of packaging I’ve ever seen come out of the HNW scene. First off you have a bronze metallic outer folder which features a folded over strip of stuck down red crape paper that has all the projects names printed in a mass in black ink, when you open up the folder you see the back of the red paper made to a point and featuring a hand number(mines 16/100). Then inside you have four oversized bubblegum like cards which are made from the same bronze metallic card as the outer sleeve, and each features a single image that relates to each of the four projects. Also inside we have a four colour folder that holds the two pro printed CDRs. The four colour folder very fittingly features a picture of a brick wall on both sides of it, along with the track details on the inner side and the disks themselves also feature four coloured printed faces that also feature the brick wall picture.

So onto the ‘walls’ with-in….up first on disc one we have a thirty three minute track from Norway’s Hour Of the Wolf, which is one of the HNW projects of highly prolific norse noise head Andreas Brandal(Avmakt,Flesh Coffin, Drevne Bolesti, and Museums of Sleep). The track on offer here is entitled “Screw”, and it starts out with ten seconds of weird, wavering and warbling electronics before jumping head first into a raging 'wall' of junk metal fed noise. By the minute mark things start to get a bit more defined and less completely overloaded, as you can make out the walls make-up. And it's built from juddering, layered and shifting mix of roaring ‘n’ sliding thick static, buried steel pot like banging’s, crunchy and lengthy mid-tone smarts, rumble bound batterings’, and subtle yet buried junk metal details. The track remains hellishly thick and brutal through-out, yet the mass of sound very aptly and enjoyable moves along and shifts over the tracks length.

Next up on disc one we have a thirty minute and thirty second untitled track from Danish project I Dreamt Of Her Beautiful Tentacles. The ‘wall’ is built around a meaty, crusty and slightly wind whipped constant judder which is mixed with a smaller element that either sounds like a revolving wheel, a constant metallic crackling, or a persistent yet not heavy rain type tonality. These two elements are mixed together in a most entrancing, appealing yet brutal encasing manner, and to my ears there quite a hurt and slightly melancholic feel at the base of the track. The ‘wall’ remains in a fairly repetitive and locked state through-out, yet it mangers to keep you tightly locked into it’s tone textural wall for it’s full lenght.

Over onto disc two and first up we have a forty minute track from the highly prolific and grimly intense Serbian HNW project Dead Body Collection. This tracks entitled “Forgive Me...For Wounds On Ourselves”, and it finds DBC creating a wall that mixers together layers of seemingly intensifying and accelerating judders. There’s seems to be two layers of nasty bass judder and one layer of more crusty and crude static bound noise present here. Theses elements are fed together into a mighty and head swelling seared ‘wall’ of noise, which feels like it keeps expanding, and get more and urgent, intense and seared as it goes along. The track at first pins you down then slow but surely sucks you deeper and deeper into it’s intensifying thickness and rage. Again the walls structure remains fairly unmoving, yet DBC skilfully makes you feel there is movement and accelerating with his very clever mixing of tones- the only major movement I can pick up here is when the bass judders become more brooding and drilling around the nine and a half minute mark. So another great and urgent slice of wall-making from DBC.

Lastly on disc two we have Italian based project Indch Libertine, and they offer up a thirty minute and eleven second track entitled “Jason Swift”. And this ‘wall’ is a mixture seared white-out static, and rumbling or constantly pouring caustic drone matter. These two elements are fed together in a bleak and grey torrent of unrelenting sound. From time to time there’s a very subtle shift, off-pitch pattern or sudden textural wash appearing in the constant roar- but these moments are fairly fleeting and with-in seconds or minutes your back on the same stark yet very morrish walled noise path. So this is a great stark, intense yet addictive slice of HNW to end this great collection on.

All told this is a wholly reward collection of long form HNW works from some of Europe’s most respected HNW names. It’s also a wonderful packaged and put together bit of packaging too, and best of all this there are 100 copies made of this collection- which hopefully means this will spread the HNW a bit further than the normal scene and into the wider experimental music market. Simply put a must have in you’re a fan of the HNW genre, and a great start point for those curious about this most extremely yet often highly rewarding sonic genre.

Review for Concrete Threat / White Gimp Mask / Dead Body Collection / Å - Death Metal from Roger Batty

The DOD Death Metal distortion peddle is one of the favourite tools of many worldwide HNW acts. This great four disc compilation celebrates this wall-making peddle, with four HNW artists from around the world utilizing purely the peddle to create one full length release each.

The four plain white cdrs are each marked with a felt-tipped number, and come inside a dvd sized box, which features on the outside a grim yet arty black & white picture of the front side of the peddle, it’s distinctive DOD lettering and the peddles rows of knobs. Inside the box you get: a slip of card featuring on one side the track listing and on the other side the circuitry lay-out for the DOD peddle, a reproduction of the peddles operation leaflet, and lastly a small badge with the a picture of one of the DOD peddles dials wth the letters HNW below it. So all in all a nice thought out bit of package.

Onto the first disc and we have an hour long track from two piece Swedish grim and battering project concrete Threat. The tracks fittingly entitled ‘Total Death’, and it starts out with a pre-teen child talking for a few seconds about the warning on the box about the parental advisory explicit noise warniing, and the kid says “that means you may want to notify your parents before using this peddle”. Then it dives head-first into a extremely thick and brutal 'wall' that’s a mixture of: a mid-paced almost caustic groove bound juddering texture, and a constant extremely billowing and air tunnel like raging drone. The track nicely brutalizes and hypnotizers you over it’s hour length in a fairly unmoving and total overwhelming manner which almost makes you want to turn your hi-fi speakers up to max and bury your head in them. So it’s a great unflinching and hypnotically brutal start to the set.

Disc two offers up two untitled just shy of thirty minute tracks from Texas wall noise/ harsh noise act W.G.M/ White Gimp mask. The first track is the shortest of the two at 26.52 mark, and it finds W.G.M building a fairly active and moving ‘wall’ from lo-fi revving, static juddering repetition, and smaller/ thinner hacking static tonality. The tracks an ok example of lo-fi, crude and active wall texturing, but for me it rather lacks anything special, and it never really stays in one place long enough to become truly trance educing. Track number two comes in at 29.11 mark and it starts off with a fairly stripped/stark yet brutal electro baying/ bleating type tone repletion. By the second minute mark an electro fired juddering and jittering noise grain has weaved it self with the bay/bleating tone, to create a great lo-fi and stark mat of wall noise matter. For me this second track is the more successful of the two tracks on this disc- as it has a really appealing, atmospheric, but lo-fi caustic feel to it.

Disc three finds a just over hour long track from Serbian based Dead Body collection, and the tracks entitled ‘walled With metal ‘till death’. The track finds DBC violently churning out a very nasty bass bound juddering 'n' hissing static jittering wall of thick and battering wall making. The ‘wall’ has a very urgent, angered and tortured feel to it with DBC battering you slowly but surely into submission. The track doesn’t really depart too far from what we’ve heard from DBC in the past, but on the whole it’s brutally rewarding. I’d say this isn’t one of DBC greatest moments, but it does keep your attention through-out, so I guess you’d call it a rather 'by numbers' but effective contribution to this collection.

Lastly on disc four we have three twenty mintue tracks French HNW act Å. First up we have the track ‘Rest’ which is built around a urgent, taut and addictive mixture of mid-tone electro juddering and higher pitched fan belt slip grating repetition. Next we have a track entitled ‘In’ which is built around a mixture of meaty buzzing electro dwell and mid-paced meaty juddering; again this tracks very addictive yet very nasty. Lastly we have ‘Peace’ which brings back the meaty mid-paced judder from the first track with taut and tight weaves of skipping and crisp static texturing. This disc is a great end to the set, and it's one of my favourite of the four discs on offer here.

‘Death Metal’ is a fitting sonic tribute to the brutal sonic tool that is the DOD Death Metal distortion, sure a few tracks here are not as good as others- but for the most part this is very rewarding. Heres hopping that AFP see fit to put together a second collection of tracks based around this great and extreme sonic tool.

Dead Body Collection / Smrznik - Existence Of Fukte 2xcdr is OUT on Zvukovina!!

“Siberia” was originally recorded by F.D.B aka Fukte in 2009 flying over Siberia using a digital recorder with stereo microphones. No additional effect were used. Concept of making this sound source recordings began shortly after Alex (DBC) released his sick “Homage To Harsh Noise Wall Tapes”, a four discs boxet where he used sounds of eight HNW pieces by eight artists. Inspired again by this idea of “obsessive soundsourcing” Alex spoke with F.D.B. about using his “pure no effect recording” Siberia to make new “Walls” with his crazy process. F.D.B. agreed and Smrznik suggested to expand Alex’s idea and do two discs release with his vision of “Siberia as a sound source” too.

This untitled c6o split brings together two side long tracks from two great European HNW acts. On side one we have Serbian’s highly prolific and brutal Dead Body Collection, and on side two we have Netherlands based Svartvit.

The tapes sleeve and the tape is worth a mention as clearly a lot of thought and effort has been put into its look and layout. The tape it’s self is hand painted black on one side, and red on the other side. The sleeve is pro-printed in black & red ink, and it features a nice grim and murky picture of a huge monolithic building or chimney against a bleak skyline. Each track also has a little poem or a few lines of prose which nicely link into the tracks titles and the vibe of each track.

So onto the tracks themselves, on side one we have Dead Body Collections track which has a fittingly ghoulish title” Wish I Could Operate On Her Again”. This tracks ‘wall’ is built around a brooding, sinister and intense bass judder that’s under fed by shadowy and bleak machine like drone loop. These twin elements nicely rub and searing against each other in a fairly unchangingly powerful and menacing manner for the tracks half an hour runtime. To me this track really seems to have capture the bleak, grotesque and sickening feel of a blood and faeces drenched operation table that’s hidden away in a run down and abounded hospital. So this is a very sinister and ghoulish tinged slice of wall making that shows DBC mixing his usual brutal and unforgiving wall-making talents with brooding and sickly atmospherics to great effect.

Onto side two and we of course have Svartvit’s track and it’s entitled “Black Bloc”. This tracks wall is built around a very battering, urgent and rapid mid-tone to bass like judder that’s weaved in and out by clipped jittering spoke like static texture. The tracks wonderfully enchanting in it’s knitted and weaving mix of tones, and to me it brings to mind some ever advancing piece of large machinery that has many smaller mechanical details and processers going on in it’s huge and noisy bulk. As the track progresses it keeps an constant and dense presence, with Svartvit skilfully and subtle altering both elements- with the judder becoming more drilling and the spoke like element become almost controlled junk metal like cluttering in it’s feel, but really there’s no great movement or shift with in the ‘walls’ unrelenting yet highly moorish attack.

So all in all this is a very nicely presented and arty looking split that features two great and very worthwhile slices of European HNW. Certainly this is one of the most wholly rewarding and consistent HNW splits I can think of in recent memory- so pick one of these up before the small pressing of 18 copies completely disappears!.

What are cloacal anomalies?
Cloacal anomalies encompass a wide array of complicated defects that occur during development of the female fetus during pregnancy. In cloacal anomalies, the reproductive, gastrointestinal and urinary tracts merge to drain out of one common channel instead of three separate openings. But if the point where they come together is low, a child has no visible anus (the duct through which feces exit the body), even though the remaining anatomy appears normal. In these patients, urinary tract obstructions are unusual because the tract typically opens into a wide common channel that drains freely.

However, if the coming together of these structures is high, then the common channel is long and urinary tract infections are common. Moreover, the clitoris looks like a penis, causing gender confusion. Cloacal-related anomalies can also result in multiple vaginas, a malformed anus and other defects of the ureters and kidneys.

How are cloacal anomalies diagnosed?
Cloacal anomalies are discovered typically at the time of birth. Upon physical examination, the newborn usually has only one opening which is usually a hooded, elongated structure. The infant also commonly has abdominal swelling.

Patients who have a cloacal anomaly undergo many radiologic examinations including X-rays, ultrasounds and MRI.

An abdominal ultrasound is performed to see if there is swelling of the bladder, vagina and rectum. It will also show if there is a condition called hydronephrosis, in which there is a buildup of urine in the kidneys and ureters. This is usually due to compression of the bladder outlet caused by buildup of urine in the bladder.

In addition, a retrograde genitogram will be done where dye is injected into the common channel and an X-ray is taken. The dye helps the doctor understand the anatomy that cannot be seen and it may also reveal any of the associated anatomical defects that are associated with this disorder. In all, this information helps the surgeon decide which procedure is best suited for treatment.

Lastly, an MRI of the pelvis and spine will be done, which can detect if there are any spinal defects present.

What are congenital vaginal obstructions?
Female infants are normally born with a thin membrane (hymen) that surrounds the vaginal opening. In rare instances, a congenital vaginal blockage occurs that results in the absence of an external vaginal opening. The most common reason for this medical abnormality is an imperforate hymen—a layer of connective tissue that forms the hymen has no opening and thus the vaginal opening remains covered. Less commonly, obstruction is due to a high transverse septum. A high transverse septum is usually due to incomplete canalization of the vagina during development.

Either of these can result in hydrocolpos, an abnormal swelling of the vagina, or hydrometrocolpos, abnormal swelling of both the vagina and uterus.

How are congenital vaginal obstructions diagnosed?
Congenital vaginal obstructions are typically diagnosed in a newborn. Usually the physician finds an abdominal swelling, which is the vagina filled by secretions from the cervical glands in response to the mother's hormones. Typically, an ultrasound will confirm the lump. Additionally, a needle may be inserted into the mass to inject dye for an X-ray examination or to withdraw fluids for analysis.

If no abdominal lump or urinary symptoms are present, this condition may not be identified until puberty. At that time, the girl will fail to pass blood during her period, despite regular ovulation. She may also experience cyclical abdominal pain as well as a lump created by a buildup of menstrual blood behind the blockage.

What causes vaginal fusion and duplication?
Much of the female reproductive system is derived from two structures, known as mullerian ducts — a pair of embryonic ducts that evolve into the fallopian tubes, uterus and vagina in females. They come together during the ninth week of pregnancy. If this process is prevented or interrupted, "fusion" or "duplication" anomalies occur. In uterus didelphys, for instance, the patient has two each of a uterus, cervix and vagina. While one vagina is obstructed, the other remains unblocked and the external sex organs appear normal. In uterus duplex bicollis, the patient again has two each of a uterus and cervix, but only one vagina. In bicornate uterus, the patient has two uteruses fused with one cervix and one vagina.

How are vaginal fusion and duplication diagnosed?
The diagnosis of fusion abnormalities at times occurs in newborns with obvious abdominal lumps on external examination. An ultrasound will usually reveal a lump that pushes the bladder forward and the vagina backwards.

It is also common for women with complete vaginal duplication and blockage to be diagnosed at the time of puberty. Despite having their periods, a girl will experience discomfort accompanied by an abdominal lump. This lump is due to the buildup of menstrual fluid in the blocked vagina.

When a fusion anomaly is suspected, an examination called a vaginoscopy will be done — a scope is inserted into the vagina to enable the surgeon to see the anatomy.

What are urogenital sinus anomalies?
A urogenital sinus anomaly is a defect present at birth in which the vagina and urethra open into a common channel, rather than separately. There are two general types of urogenital sinus anomalies. In a low confluence urogenital sinus anomaly, the common channel is short, the urethral opening is close to its normal location and the vagina is almost normal in length. In a high confluence urogenital sinus anomaly, the common channel is long, the urethral opening is internal and the vagina is quite short. This type is sometimes associated with an anus that is located too far forward.

How are urogenital sinus anomalies diagnosed?

Urogenital sinus malformations are usually diagnosed during infancy by physical examination. If a urogenital sinus defect is suspect in an infant, an examination called a genitogram will be performed. To do a retrograde genitogram, contrast dye will be injected into the common opening. An X-ray will then be taken which will permit the doctors to determine the length of the common channel and the spatial relationship between the urethra and the vagina. This information will allow the urologist to determine the type of urogenital sinus anomaly and implement the appropriate treatment.

If a retrograde genitogram is inadequate, endoscopy may be done. In endoscopy, a fiber-optic camera is inserted into the common channel, which will allow the anatomy to be seen and identified. Other tests used under special situations include an ultrasound and MRI.

What is vaginal agenesis?
Vaginal agenesis is a congenital disorder of the reproductive system affecting one in 5,000 females. It occurs when the vagina, the muscular canal connecting the cervix of the uterus to the vulva, stops developing because the vaginal plate fails to form the channel.

Some patients may have a shorter vagina, a remnant of one or lack of one all together (Mayer-von Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser's syndrome). With vaginal agenesis, it is not uncommon to have other malformations in the reproductive tract, such as an absent or small uterus.

In addition, 30 percent of patients with vaginal agenesis will have kidney abnormalities, the most common of which is the absence of one kidney or the dislocation of one or both organs. The two kidneys may also be fused together, forming a horseshoe-like shape. Approximately 12 percent of patients also have skeletal abnormalities, with two-thirds of this group experiencing problems affecting the spine, ribs or limbs.

How is vaginal agenesis diagnosed?

Because external genitalia appear normal, vaginal agenesis is typically not diagnosed until puberty (around age 15), when a young girl notices that she has not had her menstrual period and seeks medical attention. The diagnosis is made by physical examination and diagnostic imaging. They may include an ultrasound to check if the uterus and ovaries are both present and entirely intact. The patient may even be asked to undergo a MRI that will show a more detailed picture of her reproductive tract.

While most vaginal agenesis sufferers are not aware of their condition until their teen years, a subgroup of these patients will be diagnosed during infancy. In this case, the abnormality is usually detected during an examination or test for unrelated problems.

What is bacterial vaginosis?
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common cause of vaginal infection. It is less commonly referred to as vaginal bacteriosis. It is not considered to be a sexually transmitted infection. BV is not transmitted through sexual intercourse but is more common in women who are sexually active. BV is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora and should not be confused with yeast infection (candidiasis), or infection with Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis), which are not caused by bacteria.

How is Bacterial vaginosis (BV) diagnosed?
To make a diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis, a speculum examination and subsequent swabs from high in the vagina should be obtained. These swabs should be tested for:
A characteristic "fishy" odor on wet mount. This test, called the whiff test, is performed by adding a small amount of potassium hydroxide to a microscopic slide containing the vaginal discharge. A characteristic fishy odor is considered a positive whiff test and is suggestive of bacterial vaginosis.
Loss of acidity. To control bacterial growth, the vagina is normally slightly acidic with a pH of 3.8–4.2. A swab of the discharge is put onto litmus paper to check its acidity. A pH greater than 4.5 is considered alkaline and is suggestive of bacterial vaginosis.
The presence of clue cells on wet mount. Similar to the whiff test, the test for clue cells is performed by placing a drop of sodium chloride solution on a slide containing vaginal discharge. If present, clue cells can be visualized under a microscope. They are so-named because they give a clue to the reason behind the discharge. These are epithelial cells that are coated with bacteria.
Two positive results in addition to the discharge itself are enough to diagnose BV. If there is no discharge, then all three criteria are needed. A 1990 study demonstrated that the single best test for BV was the test for clue cells on wet mount examination. The best combination of two tests for BV was the test for clue cells and the whiff test.
Differential diagnosis for bacterial vaginosis includes the following:
* Normal discharge.
* Candidiasis (thrush, or a yeast infection).
* Trichomoniasis, an infection caused by Trichomonas vaginalis.

“A Quite Place to Kill” finds this highly prolific and extreme Serbian HNW act in fine and brutally battering form. On offer here is a single seventy six minute track of totally unrelenting and punishing walled noise that sure to pummel and brutalized even the most harden HNW fans.

This release finds DBC focusing in on the homicide /serial killer side of his work for it's theme, instead of his deranged and perverse medical obsessions. The simple, but effective photo-copied artwork features a picture of a hand holding a knife on the front cover, and on the back theres a picture of a dark and dingy alleyway where you can imagine a dismembered killers victim been found. Also inside the sleeve is a page of quite well mocked up newspaper reports that make out that DBC is wanted and depraved killer.

The track on offer here is entitled “Day Of The Maniac” and it finds DBC unfolding an very violent and unforgiving fast paced ‘wall’ of battering ‘n’ crusty bass judder for just under 80 punishing minutes. Try to imagine what it might sound like to be stuck in-side a vast industrial dryer or washing machine on full spin, and you get some idea of what this track sounds like from beginning to end. It never gives up, slows down or varies- it just batters and batters at you in a pleasingly simple yet violent manner.

So if you’re after no-nonsense, unrelenting, brutal and deeply punishing Harsh noise wall “A place to kill” will certainly hit the spot. Another unflinchingly brutal work from this highly prolific act.

This fairly new French label, called Slow Death Records, entered the scene quietly and it slowly makes a name for itself.The label follows a certain theme. A simplistic artwork, red paper and strange images, are the pattern which most releases follow.
This is one of those releases, a split CDr between Dead Body Collection, and Ekunhaashaastaack, two expereinced artists, whose names should be familiar to everyone.The cover art features a strange photo of two masked persons holding a scepter of sorts.

First track, entitled "Somnolence" comes from DBC, and runs for nearly 38 minutes. It starts off with a silent, choked crackle, that goes on up to the 01 minute mark, almost resembling an intro. Then a strong static burst of heavy, thick judder comes in, slowly blending in with the mentioned layer, creating a dense mixture of harsh static, complemented by low bass in the background. After the 11-th minute, the judder is gone, leaving a layer of pitched harsh static, that is, again, cut off by another burst of thick static, this time with more bassivity in it, which makes it somewhat more brutal. These cuts are appearing two more times through the wall, each time with a more pitched layer of harsh static penetrated by a thick judder, each time bringing in more bassivity, making the track progress in a brutal way.
I have a feeling that these cuts that appear through the wall are not necessary, and that this good wall could be great, if only the concept was carried out differently.

For the other half of the split, Ekunhaashaastaack, with the 38 minute track named "L'Homme En Noir", a pitched maelstorm of harsh static, with patches of strong bass blows. The wall is somehow fast, and easily entrancing, resembling a weird storm of harsh, pitched static, mixed with distant detonations of bassivity. This violent track will keep your attention all the way until it's end, leaving you wanting more.

Dead Body Collection offers us a good wall, with, unfortunately, badly executed concept, which could have been way better, while Ekunhaashaastaack gives us a violent and hextic wall, making it the better of the two.

Review for for Mass Graves / Dead Body Collection - They Will Return from Roger Batty

This split offers up two ghost/ horror themed slices of lengthy, heavy and brutal Harsh noise wall making. The split brings together Missouri USA based Mass Graves(which is all the work of one Jeff Landgraf whose also in the great HNW project Oblive) and Serbian based and highly prolific project Dead Body Collection.

First up we have an untitled track by Mass Graves which comes in at just under the thirty three minute mark. Reading the inlay card that comes in the dvd sized packaging it seems this track is based around the story of a house in Rural Missouri where a farther brutally stabbed his wife and three daughters to death, before hanging himself in the attic. The house has been uninhabited since, but bits of the noose still remain in the attic, and the carpet is stained with large brown stains through-out the house..... chilling stuff and 'wall' nicely fits that tone. The ‘wall’ on offer here is of the dense, chugging and unrelenting variety- it’s built around a thick churning, juddering and chugging noise tones which has some nice muffled static undertones. The track has a suitable nasty ‘n’ dusty feel about it, and it brings to mind frenzied attacks by ghostly hands with blood spattering cobwebs and dust laden furniture. The sound is crisp and atmospheric, and thankfully there’s none of the muffled or weak sounding production which rather marred this projects early work.

Second and lastly we have Dead Body Collections track “Il Fantasma Di Anna Never” which seemingly takes it’s name from one of the Italian comic book stories that features paranormal investigator Dylan Dog. The title roughly translates to “The Spirit By Anna Never” and the comic book features a picture of Dylan Dog with his gun drawn against the figure of a ghostly women. The track on offer here comes in just under the thirty minute mark, and the first ten minutes or so of the track are built around a rapid judder and slightly raising 'n' falling roar- it’s ok…but rather atext book example of wall-making. Though all is not lost for the track, as from just after the ten minute mark the ‘wall’ morphs into this great panic, taunt and caught feeling with juddering and roaring seemingly rolling into each other to create this great intense paranoid feeling of been surrounded by hundreds of footsteps (but of course with a tone of feedback on top). The ‘wall’ switchers once again towards the twenty minute mark with a mixture of judder weaved with smaller jittering static tones- this development is fine, and while it’s not as appealing as the middle section it’s far more rewarding than the start of the track.

I’m a sucker for themed releases and especially horror based themes, and “They Will Return” is a good to great themed album with the first track been rewarding through-out and the second track been mostly successful.

Another high quality release from Victimology records, featuring extremely prolific Dead Body Collection, with his familiar, brutal artworks, showcasing an array of morbid images, all picturing a tortured female in some way or another.

But the morbid artwork is not even a slight warning, for what awaits us when we play the wall.
Nearly 78 minutes of the most brutal, unrelenting, torture sounds I've heard in some time. The wall starts with high-pitched female screaming,which can be heard every ten minutes throughout the wall, which is, as stated by the author, the amount of time he needs to find a new victim. The wall then proceeds into a frenzy of dense, yet pounding static judder, with bass in the background, creating a mind numbing bombardment. The wall finishes off with a female crying, screaming in pain, and is the slashed and killed.
Definately a release not to be missed. Play it loud, play it to the end!

Great review from Roger Batty for Dead Body Collection - I'm Nothing

I’m Nothing” is the thirty first release from this extreme, brutal and highly prolific Serbian based HNW project. It also one of the most suffocating, nasty and bleak releases from the project thus far- think the sonic equivalent of looking into a searing and blackly roasting abyss for just under twenty minutes, and you get a idea of what to expect here.

The 3inch cdr comes with murky, bleak but not very shocking(compared with DBC’s other release) sleeve that features Dr Alex( the fevered and violent mind behind DBC) laying on a wooden floor pretending to be dead, and the sleeve flip side is a picture of bloody knife in a sink... the whole cover is printed in dark blood red and black. I guess it does fit the suicidal yet angered feel of the ‘wall’ with-in, I just wish it could have been a little more shocking.

Anyway onto the ‘wall’ it’s self, it runs for nineteen minutes and twenty two seconds. And it’s a tight, thick and rushing mixture of bleak bass bound judder, tight weaves of jittering static and a ton of oppressive and deeply pained atmosphere. The ‘wall’ literal feels like it’s trying to squeeze and pummel every last drop of hope, joy and pleasure out of you... yet for all it’s intense and suffocating sonic weight it’s also rather hypnotic and torturously pleasing. As with most DBC’s work this is fairly locked and unforgiving in it’s structure, and if you’ve heard the projects work before you’ll know what to expect here really.

So “I’m Nothing” is one of the most bleak, nasty and intense slices of HNW made by DBC thus far, it just a pity the artwork couldn’t have been a little shocking or gut retching to fit the cruel and spirit battering sonics inside.

The highly prolific Dr.Alex, with his patologic,death inspired act Dead Body Collection, bring us another release in his authentic style.
This pro-done CDr was released by Sodoma records from Japan and comes in a sleeve with a pro-printed artwork featuring an appropriate and quite bloody,perverse photo of bloodied female legs with stockings.

Featuring a single track running for 1 hour and about 19 minutes, this thick and, as always, brutal wall shows us once again the merciless sounds coming from DBC.
The wall itself is a mixture of thick, grinding walls and a background judder, resulting in a brutal bombardment of the mind, but in the same time creating a trance-inducing wall that will punish you throught the listen.
As I have enjoyed this wall quite allot, I recommend it to all the Dead Body Collection fans out there, but also to anyone who likes a great wall and punishment for the mind!

Great review from Roger Batty for Dead Body Collection - Maggotkind (Ode To Dying Mankind)

“Maggotkind” represents one of the longest ever pieces of recorded and released Harsh Noise wall Sonics. The single track on offer on this audio DVDR comes in at six hours, forty five minutes and forty eight seconds of brutal and dense wall-making from this highly prolific Serbian based project.

The distinctive and rather stomach churning green dvd case packaging is worthy of a mention as it features a full colour, close-up and wrap around picture of a mass of hundreds of maggots; which of course is very fitting to the releases title, and the squirming mass of brutal static texturing inside. The maggot picture is nicely mirrored on the dvdr disc too- all which makes this a very class yet grim looking first releases from this new UK based HNW label.

So lets move on the truly massive, extremely vast and punishingly brutal walled of noise inside. The ‘wall’ starts off life as a rapid, dense and seared mixture of judder and slightly roar bound jittering that weaved into a firm and locked state for it’s first hour or so. As the hour marks tick by DBC alters and changes the wall’s texture and make-up just slightly- be it by adding a more ragged static judder to the mix, or a deeper drilling caustic drone texture as the central focuses, or adding in a slightly skipping textured tone to the ‘wall’. But for all the shifts and alterations along it’s huge and destructive path the ‘wall’ never lessens or thins out….so this is near on seven hours of pure and unadulterated extreme walled noise.

I’ll have to admit I’ve not played the whole thing in one single sitting- as firstly & practically one doesn’t have near on seven hours to play any bit of music or sound continuously. And secondly for reasons of sanity, as I'm not really sure what effect playing such extreme noise would do to you over prolonged period!. I have though played it in sections of up to two hours at a time, and have played the whole pieces several times though. And I must say it’s quite an experiencel with ones mood nicely moving from entranced to strangely enraged over the longer submersions in this ‘wall.

So in summing “Maggotkind” offers up one of the longest and most torturous runs of sound you’ll ever likely to come across- it's also both unforgiving ly brutal yet also oddly addictive. This release is very much for your seasoned and hardcore wall fan, due to it’s length and scope- but it’s certainly another great DBC release, and a great and classy looking first release from the Sweet Solitude label.

“Dental Butchery” possesses one of the most interesting textures i have heard from a harsh noise wall. It is a deep spark like crunch with a repetitive rolling rumble and attributed bass. The way it comes out of speakers is incredible as this texture is very unique. Powerful and loud, mid-paced with a mortar like repetition unlike previous works and later works have also not shown this style employed again as far as I’ve been following. The mood of the wall is not so strong or gloomy as most walls tend to be and the lack of air between static could be responsible for it since it is more similar to the minimalistic static crackling seen not so often thus making it an interesting piece. The packaging is incredibly simple Xeroxed artwork on red paper, but for what it is it hardly matters that the packaging is so uninspired as the content is enjoyable enough to overlook the packaging even if it came in the utmost professional manner. Definitely worth seeking for anyone interested in unique wall making.

This double disc set released under the Serbian harsh noise wall label Suprematist Records explores two Serbian harsh noise wall artists. Gigant approaching with minimalist noise wall and unmoving blasting static from Dead Body Collection. The first disc is Dead Body Collection beginning his track with a slight fade in and immediately builds up into a harsh unmoving texture sounding ripped and torn apart by a mid-paced barrage of white noise. This slow and unmoving piece is distinguishable from previous works not only because of the fade in, but also because it is a slightly distinctive texture from other works I’ve heard from this artist. With a muddy sputtering quality it grinds away for a full 79 minutes nearly reaching the maximum capacity of the disc. Moving over to the second disc is Gigant’s highly disciplined 74 minute unmoving static growl. The approach here is entirely minimalistic and extreme bass like texture compliments the lack of dynamic to a point where this static statement stands on its own without need for textural shifts or voluminous increases. The packaging itself is incredibly beautiful as it is printed on a semi transparent white paper similar to rice paper with minimalist influenced artwork. The contrast of clear and see through white with slim black lines and b/w text makes a less is more appeal and by far stands out as some of the best packaging I’ve seen for a HNW release this year.

The charmingly entitled “PUS” is a four CDR box set which brings together the highly prolific and sonically ferocious Serbian HNW project Dead Body Collection, and French brutal sonic anarchist HNW project Å. Each project firstly offers up a hour plus piece on the first two discs, then on the last two discs they deconstruct and rape each others work in another hour long piece per disc-so in total you have just over four and a half hours worth of brutal and total unrelenting walled noise on offer here.

Like most of the releases put out on the French AnarchoFreaksProduction label the DVD case features great & atmospheric black ‘n’ white photograph taken by the labels head(Greg whose also the mind behind Å). This time around the pictures' of a moss, lime scale or white gunk covered wall; which nicely gives the box a grim, sickly, and semi-organic feel about.

On the first disc in the set we find Dead Body Collection’s greatly titled “I'll Drink White Fluid From Your Dead Body” which finds the Serbian project offering up a single seventy eight minute track of rapid, searing, and truly nasty walled noise matter. The ‘wall’ is built around a billowing ‘n’ roaring gallop, that’s mixed with a juddering and slightly rip ‘n’ catching noise tone. To me the track brings to mind two or three constantly running surgical saws cutting through mounds of clothing covered bodies- with ever so often the saw catching as it meets clothing, hair, bone or difficult to cut organs. The ‘wall’ remains thick, unbreakable and unchanging through-out it's lenght; with DBC certainly building a very grim and violent ‘wall’ of hypnotizing walled matter.

Disc two finds Å presenting us with a track entitled “Trépanation”- this track lasts just over the hour mark, and it finds this French project offering up a extreme dense ‘n’ crusty wall of mid-paced static. This ‘wall’ is built around the meeting of several crusty ‘n’ judder bound near identical noise patterns, which Å uses like a thick web of sound to wrap around you. It's really a great overwhelming and moorish track, which along it’s brutal sonic path alters it’s pitch slightly, adds in a few great off tone/ pattern static crunchers and violent jitters here and there; but for the most part stays wonderfully fixed and extreme dense in it’s make-up. Think of been in a endless down pour of just liquid cerement, and you come close to what this feels like.

Disc three finds an Å track been deconstruction by Dead Body Collection; I’m guessing it’s Trépanation from disc two, as there are similarities in the tracks structure and textures. This track is called “I'll Still Drink White Fluid From Your Dead Body” and it comes in at the sixty three mintue mark. This ‘wall’ is mixture of two layers of similar sounding semi bass bound juddering noise, which is underfed by a slightly smaller and more crusty bound static jitter. It feels like a great mixture between boiling liquid and hacking static tonality, again it’s very hypnotic slice of wall making, as your mind really gets entranced by the interlocking patterns, and just like the other tracks here it’s fair solid & unmoving in it’s sonic state.

Lastly we have disc four which finds an Dead Body Collection been deconstruction By Å, and this track is entitled “Ecartèlement”. I’m guess this must be Å feeding DBC first discs track back through his noise systems, as this track sounds like a slowed and droned out version of “I'll Drink White Fluid From Your Dead Body”. The ‘wall’ threads together a billowing ‘n’ galloping noise tone with a slightly catching ‘n’ tearing judder. Instead of the wizzing surgical saw feel of the first disc, this feels like a constant grinding wheel churning as if one human face after another is been put against the and ripped down to the bone. So this disc offers up another very lengthy, unmoving and rewarding track- though this ‘wall’ somehow does’nt feel quite as entrancing or engross as the others in the collection, but it still mangers to keep me locked into it's thick texture over it's full lenght

So if you dig extremely thick, nasty and unmoving HNW matter this four box set is certainly worth picking up. A totaly crushing and enchasing collection that's sadly only ltd to twenty copies- drop in here to make sure you get one before there all gone!

This massive wall box set brings together 4 HNW artists into one massive wall marathon not to be missed.

Concrete Threat offers an hour long slab of unchanging, hissing wall. The track really displays the guttural, ripping qualities that can be achieved with the DOD Death Metal pedal.

White Gimp Mask opens up his disc with a wall that centers around a constant buzzing, almost as if something were to be electrocuted, or grounded incorrectly. The buzzing plants the track firmly- creating a massive base to the track. Surrounding the buzz is a sort of swirling inconsistant hiss that seems to have two parts to it- a high-end scraping and pulling, and a lower-end vortex of circular void, dragging along into nothing. The wall remains unchanging until the final few seconds, when it begins to slowly wind down into a low-end rumble before cutting off into the next track.

The second untitled White Gimp Mask track picks up in a similar sonic vein, a boosted-mids wall, this time without the buzz. Instead, an almost constant bobbling or rattling like sound takes the foreground in the track. It slowly gains a little more high-end within the first two minutes. It then becomes another stagnant, massive slab of thick, unrelenting wall. Around the 21 minute mark some very huge bass rumbles interrupt the otherwise unmoving wall before returning to the same constant static. Within the last few seconds the bass subsides and the track is reduced to nothing.

Dead Body Collection fills his disc with an hour and two minute long cut of blown out-bass style wall. Like White Gimp Mask's disc, there is a nice contrast between low rumbles and high static. The track stays firm throughout the whole hour with very little variation. Towards the 50 minute mark the higher pitched static becomes ever-so-slightly more intense and wild, thrashing and wailing about before abruptly coming to an end. Silence becomes deafening.

Å's disc opens up with 'Rest', a feedback laden wall that consists of a central high-pitched drone, with plenty of static crackle on top. Following suit with the other tracks, it remains constant with little to no variation. It is a different approach to wall, and a challenging listen. The track smoothly transitions into 'In'.

The feedback is cut, and like White Gimp Mask's first track, a constant buzzing takes its place. Mid to low-end rumble joins the scooped-mids buzzing for another 20 minute assault that fades into 'Peace'.

This track has a bit more gain and high end than 'In', but still continues with the same mid to low-end rumble. From time to time the higher end static becomes extremely dense and then fades back to its original form.

The smoothness of the transitions between tracks sounds like they could be strung together as one piece, which, assuming the title "Rest In Piece' was the intent. The intentionality of breaking the mammoth wall into three parts and adding variations into each is a great execution.

The photography on the front is well executed and looks pro. The DOD Death Metal mini instruction manual is a nice touch/nice read while digesting the disc. The pin, a knob from the Death Metal pedal with HNW typeset above is also a nice touch. My only complaint with packaging is that more could have been done with the discs (sprayed, screened, etc) instead of the minimal marking on the white discs. The contrast between the dark cover and the white discs is a bit distracting, but other than that a solid release.

Overall this box set takes some time to digest- 4 hours of DOD Death Metal worshiping, monolithic, lifeless HNW. Slowly it creeps into your head and over the four discs spirals your sanity into nothing. Long live DOD Death Metal. Long live DEATH METAL V/A 4xCDr.

Not so great review from Roger Batty for Dead Body Collection - Dead End Whoredom

“Dead end Whoredom” sees this highly prolific(this is the projects 25th release since last year!) and brutal Serbian HNW project focus in more on female torture and serial killer themes, than the projects usual medical ‘n’ macabre based themes. It also sees female screams of torture being added to DBC’s ‘wall’ of sound to somewhat mixed results.

The CDR features just one seventy seven minute track of intense, battering and brutal walled-noise which finds DBC unfolding a fairly rapid paced thick ‘n’ slightly crusty wall of juddering & jittering static toned noise that stays fixed and nasty through-out. For the most part the ‘wall’ has a brutally persistent and sleazed feel to it, but sadly there’s one thing that keeps this from being a great and rewarding ‘wall’. and that one thing is the female screams that pop up every ten or so minutes. Firstly it seems to be the same single scream sample that’s being used again and again- surely there could have been some variation or mix of screaming/begging tones?. Secondly DBC just drops the scream on top of the 'wall' and makes no attempt to mix or stretch it into the ‘wall’, so it just sounds a little sloppy and none too effective. The track also features screams and pained wails at the start & end of the track, and these work a lot better than in the body of the track; and thier particular effective in the end torture breakdown where there lots of pained female sobbing, and then a slicing of knifes as the track exists.

So to summing up on this release- it’s good to see DBC trying different and new elements in his sound it’s just a pity that more effort & time wasn’t put into mixing and structuring them in a more terrifying and effective manner. Because what your left with now is a ‘wall’ that could have being great, brutal and nasty , but instead sounds rather amateurish and sloppy every time the same old scream sample pops up in the wall.

“Incomplete Fracture” is a short, tense and aggravated slice of wall making from this highly prolific Serbian HNW project that has notched-up over 30 release this year alone.

The twenty minute wall on offer here is a wonderfully taut ‘n’ tense excise in rapid, juddera nd jitter bound wall-making. The tracks built around two main tones; the first is a droning ‘n’ drilling bass noise tone, & the second is a rapid boiling static jitter ‘n’ judder. DBC feeds these two elements together into a unforgiving and never fbreacking wall of sound. The tracks theme is seemingly broken bones, but to me it brings to mind a mad dentist on speed attacking someone’s teeth with violent and unrelenting gusto. The track literally pins you down and hammers into you again and again, in a very extreme, brutal & nasty manner for its twenty minute runtime- there is zero let-up and no respite.

I’ve enjoyed most of Dead Body Collections huge and brutal out-put over the last year or so, but I must say this is one of my favourite releases thus far from this project, as it’s so intense, urgent, rapid and truly unrelenting in its attack- you really feel like your heads' be psychically bashed around by the end of it.

This four disc release finds this highly prolific Serbian based HNW project taking the work of eight other HNW acts (Griz+zlor,Självhat,Smrznik, Å, Oblive,Svartvit and Werewolf Jerusalem.) And feeds it through his peddles to create depraved and mainly more brutal takes on the original tracks.

I guess you’d call this a remix album, but it's of the most extreme and brutal form- there are no beats, extra elements, or silly extra singing voices added to the tracks here; what’s added is more feed-back, more sonic ugliness and more brutal grimness. DBC takes each track from there original form( be it tape, cdr or wave file) then feeds the tracks back through up to five peddles, and the results vary from been slightly altered to complete blown-out and white noise abused version of each track.

DBC has put two tracks a piece on each of the four discs, and playing this as just one long over four hour attack on the senses is great. Sure like any type of remixed or re-contextualised project this is somewhat hit ‘n’ miss affair, with a few tracks here either sounding too much like the original tracks or just not been that effective in their own right. Yet there are also great moments like his re-raping of Vomir’s Proanomie, which has made me reconsider and enjoy this particular vomir track/ album that had always underwhelmed me in the past. Or DBC's violent and seared re-churning of Svartvit' – Dodecafonie, which makes this often wondering c90 release more urgent and instant.

This is certainly not a release for newbie to the scene & it’s not the best thing DBC has put out, but taken as a whole this collection is worthwhile and extremely unforgiving release which will please long term wall-heads. It will be interesting to see if DBC does do a second volume, and what he takes on next to bend and sonical pervert to the DBC way.

Review for V.A. - Staring At Wall- The HNW Annihilation cdr from Roger Batty

This weekend saw the first ever European HNW fest 'Staring At wall' take place in Venice. This rather wonderful compilation celebrates this fact, and offers up a track a piece of exclusive and new material from all the eleven acts that took part in the festival- making this sort of like your own mini fest I guess.

Taking part in the festval was the following projects: Vomir, Smrznik, Dead Body Collection, Stop Asking Stupid Questions, Fuke, Indch Libertine, Å, Terminal Erection, Ecoute La Merde, Karkastix and Fragile. Each act here offers up a short but sharp six minute untitled track, and the quality is very high and rewarding through-out with each act putting their own distinctive twist of this most violent, yet often highly hypnotic sonic genre.

The disc starts off with a track from Vomir which finds the French man offering up this crude ‘wall’ of juddering static that’s underpinned by this distant & weird chiming almost church bell or vibe like repeated harmonic element- it's a great start to the comp. Directly after this we have Sarajevo based Smrznik offering up this great tense ‘n’ cold ‘wall’ that mixers together this huge tank track repetitive like drone, juddering static churn and great smaller/simple jittering metallic patterns that appear at a different pace to the rest of the tracks elements.

Later on Fukte offers up a very loud ‘wall’ of rolling ‘n’ roasting wall matter that’s skip and seared by quite active jumping static haze. And towards the end of the comp eastern France based Ecoute La Merde offering up a very crude, nasty & lo-fi wall that’s built around scrape metal like judders & churning aged engine like drones- hell you can almost smell burning oil and rubber on this track as judders and churns it’s way through the air and deep into your head.

So in summing-up this great and highly consistent compilation that offers up eleven short yet brutal slices of 'wall-making' from some of the most know & not so know names in European Harsh Noise wall scene. It’s a collection that’s suited to both your long term ‘wallhead’ and those who have yet to taste the wonders of a really good & brutal sonic 'wall'. Thankfull this is marginally less ltd than some HNW release with a edition of sixty copies- to find out more and pick up a copy yourself drop into Toxic Industries MySpace here.

This split double disc release offers up an album a piece of thick and dense static worship from these two unrelenting and extreme Serbian based HNW acts.

First off before we get to the punishing walls of static, it’s worth mentioning the great simple, minimalistic & arty yet highly effective packaging the two discs come-in. The discs sit in a see-through double DVD case that has white tracing paper sleeve. The on the front the sleeve features just the projects names and a simple black square with a picture of a brick wall in it. There's simple lettering and shapes on the spine(which relate to each disc inside), and on the back there's just the labels logo and name- so a really nice stripped yet arty bit of package that very nicely fits the HNW brand.

On disc one (or the circle disc as it’s marked) we have a single untitled track from the highly prolific and total unforgiving Dead Body Collection. This track runs just shy of eighty minutes mark and it’s truly unrelenting, and wonderfully encasing slice of walled matter. The ‘wall’ starts off with a quick sliding in rush of roasting static tone before it locks down into it’s main and fixed state which is a very thick and suffocating mixture of: fast rolling ‘n’ roast static drone and rapid juddering static repetition. The track feels like your climbing up a endless mountain of pure static, and you never seem to reach it's top. As the juddering element brings to mind almost slipping and sliding footsteps as you try to reach the mountain's peak

Onto the second disc(or the square disc as it’s marked) and we have a seventy four minute track from Gigant. This ‘wall’ is mainly based around a focused & bass bound juddering static tone, which really seems to penetrated right deep into your body and mind with it’s cold and unrelenting intent. Ever so often you get slightly ghosting sub-tones and lower tone jitters coming off the main tone, but really this is all about focused and punishing single strand static bass toned worship. As with the first disc this is really total unmoving, unchanging and devastating in it’s feel, and it also leaves your head nicely buzzing for a few moments after it’s finshed!

So this set offers up two very lengthy, total hopeless and unrelenting slices of prime Serbian wall-making. This is certainly not for those who only have a passing interest in the HNW form, this is for your seasoned ‘wall-head” who wants to total submerge themselves in unmovable and thick static fields of fixed noise.

“Stockings Bloody Stockings” finds the highly prolific and sonically barbaric Dead Body Collection offer up two near on forty minute tracks of urgent, bass heavy and extremely nasty Harsh Noise Wall matter.

Theme wise this release sees DBC stepping away from his more deranged medical interests into more slaying of female flesh and sexlized death as the cover features a blood red tinged picture of naked female laying down with leather gloves and a bask on, and of course the title suggests slaughter too. Sonically wise we still firmly in what we’d expected from this project with nasty, unrelenting, sadistic and extreme ‘wall making’ of the highest (or lowest form).

Up first we have untitled track number one which comes in at just under the thirty nine minute mark and it finds DBC churning out this really intense, thick and slightly brooding ‘wall’. It's built around this endless throbbing bass judder meets slight jitter static subtone- it’s like someone drilling into you head endlessly with a juddering and jitter road drill. The track never moves from it’s fixed, cruel and bloody caustic state yet DBC makes it very appealing as you seemed to get more and more hypnotised as the track goes on.

Up lastly we have the second untitled track which is a little shorter than the first at just over the thirty five minute mark. This wall is more of plan looped bass judder/ drone that brings to mind and endless revering up motor bike engine. The tracks ok for the first 10/ 15 minutes, but after that it just becomes rather unappealing and repetitive in a bad way, and when it finally finishers your well and truly feed-up with the ‘wall’. I think why it doesn’t work as a long form wall is purely because it feels too simple and basic in its make-up, meaning your concentration wanes and you loose interest in it quickly. Sure it’s brutal as a rapid battering around the head , but it’s just missing the moorish edge to make it a great and appealing ‘wall’.

So in summing up “Stockings, Bloody, Stockings” offers up one great, brutal and relentless ‘wall’ . And one not so great ‘wall’. Certainly it's worth picking up for the first track, and who knows you may enjoy the second track more that I did.

Includes and insert regarding masked rapist serial killer. Entire release is one nearly 77 minute track "Day Of The Maniac." Excessively violent HNW with strong low end balancing out with cascading static sound from DBC. Crunching wall texture devoted to murder and sexual violence. Maniacal noise fitting with giallo theme featured in much of HNW (influenced largely throughout the scene in that regard by the work of Sam Mckinlay and Richard Ramirez but generally delivered with an honest and individualistic obsession by devoted maniacs). Explores deep madness within damaged mind looking for a dark alleyway in which to escape into the void of the suffering of another. Dark exorcism of violent tendency from this Eastern European Harsh Noise artist.

Great review for Dead Body Collection - She Was A Whore Anyway II

Dr. Alex of Dead Body Collection offers up another five minute net-only release of unrelenting harsh noise wall. On She Was a Whore Anyway Part II, Dead Body Collection begins with a base tone of static buzz with another fluctuating, pulsing side of static underlaid. Ultimately, the track is another “pure” slab of wall noise, remaining unchanging throughout the entire runtime. It is another great track, and just like the first, offers up a bit of the idea of the artist’s take on HNW without requiring a lot of time and investment from the listener.

And generally, there’s not much more to say on that subject. If you dig harsh noise walls, especially those that lack a lot of dynamics or personality, this cold and characterless track will appeal to you, as the only changes to the sound are those fluctuations of static that appear to shift but in actuality remain fairly static.

Incomplete Fracture is the new 3" release of Dead Body Collection, Serbian-based act, led by veteran harsh-noise-waller, Dr. Alex.
It was released by Bored Bear Recordings,on a 3" CDr packed in a sleeve,done in a nice DIY manner, with great artwork to go with the theme.

This brutal, dense wall, brings together an engulfing and choking wave of static, a battering bass running in the back, and punctuating pitched noises and fuses them into a perfect mix, resulting in a thick,raging crunching wall, which will easily captivate you and hold your attention, until it's finished at the twentieth minute .
Dead Body Collection is one of the most brutal HNW acts at the moment, and this release is certainly proving that.

This split brings together two of the most prolific, brutal and unrelenting Harsh Noise wall acts. On the right hand side we have Serbian based Dead Body Collection whose amassed twenty plus release of his gory and medical obsessed barbaric sound torture since the project inception in late 09. Then on the left hand side we have the black plastic bag wearing, nihilistic and total unrelenting French act Vomir whose amassed coming on for sixty plus releases since the project started in 06.

The pro-pressed CDR comes in a slim-line DVD black plastic case with professional printed yet grim looking black and white artwork, and a gloss yet grimy card inlay detailing the tracks origin and each party’s related place on the net.

Up first we have Dead Body Collection with the great and grimy titled “Burn Your Skin, I like The Smell of it” which finds the Serbian sonic sleaze merchant offering up a forty minute track of battering and flesh roasting tight walled matter. The tracks an mid-paced to fast mixture of buffeting ‘n’ bashing deep drones, and feasting ‘n’ jittering smaller static batterings that meet together in an all engulfing and grim wave of sound. The 'wall' seems to move and shift in a battering and weaving manner as it rages along, but in reality I think it’s pretty stayed & tied down this seeming movement is just the sign of a what great wall maker DBC is.

Secondly & lastly we of course have Vomir with another forty minute track that's entitled “Le Peuple Des Miroirs” ( English translation People Of the Mirrors). The ‘wall’ on offer here is crusty, crude and extremely unrelenting, and it finds vomir unfolding a unchanging flow of grey and enclosing judder bound static tones that stay mid-paced and hope sucking through-out. I don’t whether it’s because DBC wall was so huge and batter, or that this is really one of Vomir more bleak moments- but this wall really feels very barren, stark and almost black ‘n’ white in it’s feel. Anyway which ever it is “Le Peuple Des Miroirs” is very effective in setting you in a very morose and entranced state.

So all in all this is very rewarding yet total unrelenting split from these two European HNW projects. It’s also a little less ltd than a lot of HNW releases with 67 copies in all been pressed of this, so this should be fairly easy to get hold of if you act fairly fast!
